Jakob Martin Strid (born in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1972) is a self-taught cartoonist and illustrator. Strid had his breakthrough with the general public when he was syndicated in a daily strip entitled ‘Strid’ in the national newspaper Politiken. Strid’s anti-authoritarian, humorous, and poetic blend were reflected in his children’s books. Here his political satire was transformed into an anarchistic, humorous tale with great sympathy for strangers and the outsiders, which is also seen in his artwork. The artist lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Jakob Martin Strid art
His works are described by the artist himself as aiming to create multiple imaginative fairytales in a variety of settings with machines, space ships and various other technical apparatuses. At the same time his artistic framework often juxtaposes nature and culture, as well as imagination and reality. The same figures in his works appear throughout his practice, especially Strid, the main character in his works, alongside his yellow cat. Most of the drawings are based on stories found in the artist's books and cartoons. In the world of Strid anything can happen - mostly for the good, and Strid takes on many adventures to help out and save all the creatures he meets on his way.
