In his works, Mikael Hallstrøm (b. 1979) explores the relation between culture and nature by discovering the way materials interact and can be restrained. His passion lies in experimenting with the richness of the different media he works with and bringing forth their potential. Hallstrøm has participated in exhibitions at Den Frie Udstillingsbygning, Charlottenborg Kunsthal and Aarhus Kunsthal. The artistlives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark
In his artistic practice, Hallstrøm explores three key elements; time, repetition and accumulation. He uses repetition and accumulative mark making as a way to discover new structures, meanings and visual expressions of well-known materials such as the ballpoint pen, watercolors, pencil and paper. His works are non-figurative but do often reference geological structures, as in his watercolor works, where he works with a technique he calls 'strata'. With this technique, where every layer is painted and dried individually, he imitates the vaults of the layers formed at the surface of planet earth.
The pieces presented on this page are both watercolors and pen drawings. They are all original artworks, which you can read more about here, as well as find more works in the same category. You can also browse all other artists here.
